3PM’s website is the backbone of the Association and provides visitors with an overview of the Association as well as a Member Directory which contains a list of our members as well as lists detailing which firms are interested in working with Investment Managers. These lists are categorized by geography, product offerings and distribution channel to facilitate an investment manager’s search for the appropriate 3PM partner. Members also are given access to the Member’s Only page of 3PM’s website which contains a Service Provider Directory, sample documents and contracts, free access to past webcasts and their presentation materials as well as a listing of the discounted vendor offerings negotiated on behalf of our members.
Many investment managers begin their search for potential third party marketers by visiting the Association’s website, which typically leads to several direct inquiries to 3PM member firms. Since most 3PM firms are hesitant to represent competing managers in the same asset class, opportunities for manager referrals are not uncommon, thus allowing the 3PM members to grow the number of high-quality managers it represents.
Regulatory and Compliance
Regulatory and compliance issues are often cited as one of the most important benefits of membership in our Association. Most 3PM firms face the same challenges as an internal marketing staff, however, they don’t have a full-time, dedicated team of compliance professionals on staff. The Association helps to supplement these resources by offering its members webcasts focused on timely issues affecting most organizations. Previous webcast topics include 3PM / BD Relationships, Contracts, State Registrations and Issues for 3PMs operating Broker Dealers. Replays are available free to members on the Member’s Only page of the website.
3PM’s Annual Conference provides members an opportunity to network and discuss issues facing the industry. All topics and speaker presentations are geared specifically to 3PMs to help members better manage their firms on a day-to-day basis.
3PM’s Membership Committee has negotiated significant discounts from several leading industry vendors for its members. The list of providers include: conference sponsors, performance measurement systems, analytical tools, database providers and industry newsletters and publications.
The Association’s quarterly newsletter aims to keep members abreast of things going on at 3PM. Issues include committee updates and activities, articles of interest, a calendar of industry events, and profiles of Association members.
As with any industry, third party marketing has its own unique set of business issues. To easily address these issues, 3PM encourages informal networking among its members by providing members’ contact information; the 3PMentor Program; ample conversation opportunities throughout our Annual Conference agenda; and a collaborative rather than competitive atmosphere amongst its membership.
